FlashDisk OpenRAID Model Stores 880 GB with 73.4 GB Low-profile Disks
Provides high speed and high capacity

Burlington, MA. May 1, 2001 - Winchester Systems, as part of an ambitious enterprise storage product rollout plan, has introduced its ultra-high performance FlashDisk OpenRAID using 73.4 GB low-profile disk drives to provide 880 GB in a single enclosure. The product is available for fibre channel network attach or SCSI direct attach interfaces.

FlashDisk OpenRAID models using 73.4 GB low-profile disk drives are designed for the storage intense applications that require high performance including OLTP, database, financial, manufacturing, e-commerce applications plus video and audio applications.

"IT managers can now obtain a unique combination of high performance and high capacity of FlashDisk OpenRAID disk arrays with 12 low-profile disk drives running at 10,000 rpm. This provides nearly a terabyte of high-speed storage in each rackmount or pedestal unit, explained Mr. Joel Leider, the company's chief executive officer. "This 880 GB model eliminates the difficult choice between high capacity and high performance by providing both in a single unit," he added.

Multi-Terabyte Capacity
The FlashDisk 82" high Data Center Cabinet will hold 9 rackmount units plus a UPS to store over 7.8 TB in just 6 square feet of floor space. FlashDisk is also available in other capacities and performance combinations. A high capacity model uses 8 disk drives that run at 7,200 rpm to store 1.45 TB per unit for the most storage hungry applications including data warehousing, decision support systems and near-line storage replacement. A high performance unit uses 12 low-profile 18 GB disk drives that run at 15,000 rpm for the highest performance for the most demanding disk intensive applications including OLTP, database and e-commerce. The new 880 GB FlashDisk model with 73.4 GB low-profile disks running at 10,000 rpm provides an optimum combination of capacity and performance for virtually every mission critical environment.

High Performance
FlashDisk OpenRAID not only stores massive amounts of data, it has the speed to deliver it to and from host servers and their applications exceptionally fast. FlashDisk delivers up to 13,000 I/O operations per second and up to 121 Mbytes per second sustained data throughput using two available host posts. The high random I/O performance makes FlashDisk OpenRAID suitable for OLTP, database, financial, manufacturing and other random access applications. The high I/O throughput performance makes FlashDisk OpenRAID also suitable for sequential tasks such as file copying, report generation, data collection, video and audio streaming and backup applications.

"Open" Architecture
FlashDisk OpenRAID is a true hardware, plug-and-play storage solution, which emulates standard disks --eliminating proprietary host software, RAID managers and the need for software drivers or agents of any kind. It supports hardware RAID 1, 3, 5, 1+0 and RAID 15 for data protection. FlashDisk OpenRAID attaches via industry standard fibre channel and SCSI interfaces to host servers including SUN, HP, IBM and Intel.

Price and Delivery
FlashDisk OpenRAID models are available in rackmount and pedestal configurations. An 880 GB FlashDisk OpenRAID unit with 12 low-profile disk drives of 73.4 GB each is priced at $55,687 including cables and UPS or under 7 cents per MB. Delivery is 3 weeks.
